Hocam kendinizi tanıtır mısınız? Proje yazma sürecine nasıl başladınız ve bu alanda nasıl deneyimler kazandınız?

İsmim Hüseyin Bekir YILDIZ. Konya’da KTO Karatay Üniversitesinde Prof.Dr. unvanı ile öğretim üyesi olarak çalışıyorum. Aslen Kimyagerim. Yenilenebilir enerji ve güneş hücreleri üzerine çalışmalar yapıyorum.Proje yazma sürecine doktora öğrencisiyken doktora hocamın teşvikleriyle başladım. Proje yazmayı öğrenmek için belli bir kurs veya eğitim almadım. Proje yazmaya başladığım zaman proje yazma eğitimleri yoktu. Doktora hocamın yazdığı önceki projeleri okuyarak, yazdığım projeler için gelen hakem görüşleri doğrultusunda eksiklerimi veya yanlışlarımı görerek, doğrusunu öğrenerek, kendimi düzelterek ve bunun doğrultusunda projeler yazarak çeşitli yerlerden proje destekleri aldım ve almaya devam ediyorum. Proje yazmayı öğrenme işi hayat boyudur; bu yüzden ölene kadar proje yazma konusunda eksik olduğumuz yerlerde öğrenmeye devam edeceğim.

Proje yazma sürecinde hangi adımları takip ettiniz? Hangi kaynakları kullandınız ve nasıl bir planlama yaptınız?

Proje yazma sürecinde önce proje konusunu belirlerim. Proje konusunu belirlerken düşündüğüm proje konusunu hakkında daha önce yayınlanan bilimsel makaleler, projeler ve patentleri okurum. Daha sonra projede destek almamız durumunda çalışabileceğim bilimadamları veya uzmanları belirlerim ve proje takımını oluştururum. Proje takımı oluştuktan sonra takımla bir dizi toplantılar yapıp takım üyelerinin uzmanlıkları yardımıyla onlrın görüşlerini veya desteklerini alarak proje konusunu olgunlaştırırım. Sonrada takım üyleriyle birlikte projeyi yazarım. Projeyi yazdığımız her kısımda takım üyeleriyle tartışıp bu kısımları en olgun hale getirmeye çalışırım. Sonra da bu kısımları birleştirip proje yazımını tamamlarım.

Başarılı projeler yazmak için nelere dikkat etmenizi önerirsiniz? Hangi stratejileri kullanarak projenizin etkisini artırmayı başardınız?

Projede en dikkat edilmesi gereken konu ister bilimsel ister sosyal sorumluluk projeleri olsun proje konusunun özgünlüğü ve destek alması halinde proje bittikten sonra oluşturacağı katma değeridir.  Bunları sağlayabilmek için de çok fazla makale ve proje ve patent okunması gerekiyor. Ancak böyle proje yazarken projede özgünlüğü ve katma değeri yakalayabilirsiniz. Proje konusunu belirledikten sonra projenin nasıl yapılabileceğini düşünürüm ve iş paketlerini oluştururum. Daha sonra iş paketlerine en uygun birlikte çalışmak istediğim proje takım üyelerinin kim olacağını düşünürüm. Proje takım üyelerini oluşturduktan sonra da proje yazmaya başlarım ve takım üyeleriyle yaptığım toplantılar ve onlardan gelecek geri dönütler doğrultusunda proje konusunu ve yazma işini olgunlaştırırım. Proje konusunu belirlerken ve takım üyelerini oluştururken adama göre iş değil de işe göre adam felsefesini izlerim. Takım üyelerini belirlerken o konuda kim uzman onları belirlerim. Tanımasam bile onu arar ortaklık teklif ederim. Çünkü projenin konusu kadar projeyi yapacak kişilerin de çok önemli olduğuna inanırım. Şimdiye kadar daha önce tanımadığım ve proje vesilesiyle tanıştığım ve birlikte başarılı çalışmalar yaptığım çok fazla arkadaşım oldu.

Proje yazma sürecinde karşılaştığınız zorluklar nelerdi ve bunları nasıl aştınız? Hangi önlemleri aldınız ve hangi kaynaklardan destek aldınız?

Proje yazma sürecinde karşılaştığımız en önemli zorluk projede düşündüklerinizi en açık bir şekilde anlaşılmasını sağlayabilmek olduğunu düşünüyorum. Çünkü ben de projeler değerlendiriyorum ve bana gelen projeleri yazılana göre anlayıp değerlendiriyorum. Eğer düşündüklerinizi en açık ve anlaşılır bir şekilde yazıya dökebildiğiniz an proje karşı tarafta bir anlam kazanıyor. Projeyi yazarken konu dışında çalışan bir kişi okursa planladıklarımı anlayabilir mi diye düşünerek yazmaya çalışırım. Projeyi yazarken üst düzey düşünebiliyorsunuz ve bazen üst düzeyden yazabiliyorsunuz ve bu da karşı tarafın tam anlamamasına ve değerlendirmede size düşük puan vermesine sebep olabiliyor. Projeyi yazıp bitirdikten sonra proje taslağını matematik öğretmeni olan kızkardeşime, Türkçe eğitimcisi eşime ve farklı alanlarda çalışan düşüncelerine güvendiğim 3 veya 4 okurum okuturum. Onlardan gelen sorular ve eleştiriler neticesinde projeyi son haline getiririm.

Projelerinizin başarısını nasıl değerlendiriyorsunuz? Hangi değerlendirme yöntemlerini kullanarak projenizin etkisini ölçüyorsunuz? 

Bir projenin en büyük başarısı o projenin çıktılarının getireceği değerdir. Eğer bir projeden bir cihaz yapmışsanız o cihazın ticarileşebilmesi ve o üründen para kazanmaya başlanabilmesi o projenin başarılı bir şekilde tamamlandığını gösterir. Eğer bir projede bir yöntem geliştirmeşseniz o yöntemi anlatan makalelerin yayınladığı bilimsel derginin kalitesi ve o makaleye diğer bilimadamları tarafından yapılacak atıflar da o projenin başarısını gösterir. Eğer bir sosyal sorumluluk projesi yazmış isem, projeyi yazdığım o konuda farkındalık oluşmuş ise veya o proje birçok kişiye yardımcı olmuş ise o projenin başarılı bir şekilde bitirildiğini düşünürüm.

Proje yazma sürecinde size ilham veren kaynaklar veya mentorlarınız oldu mu? Sizin için önemli olan kişilerden aldığınız destek hakkında konuşabilir misiniz?

Proje yazma süresince yukarıda bahsettiğim gibi en önemli kaynaklarım o konu hakkında daha önce yapılmış makaleler, patentler, tezler ve bitirilmiş projelerdir. Benim en büyük proje mentorum doktora hocam Prof.Dr. Levent Toppare ve İsrail Kudüs kentinde çalışırkenki patronum Prof.Dr. İtamar Willner’dır. Ayrıca sosyal sorumluluk projelerimdeki en önemli mentorum ise Avukat Mühendis Ali Ulusoy olmuştur. Her üçünün de bana verdikleri katkıları ve haklarını ödeyemem.

Projelerinizde en gurur duyduğunuz anı paylaşabilir misiniz?

Projelerim de gurur duyduğum anlar Proje Pazarlarında bana getirdikleri ödüllerdir. Projelerimle TET Ar-Ge Proje Pazarlarında ikincilik ve üçüncülük ödülleri aldım. Ancak en anlamlı ödül ise öğrencilerimle birlikte yazdığımız proje ile öğrencilerimin 2021 yılında aldığı Biyoteknoloji ve İnovasyon Alanında aldığı Birincilik ödülüdür.

Proje yazma sürecindeki deneyimlerinizden sonra yeni projeler geliştirmeyi düşünüyor musunuz? Eklemek istediğiniz başka bir şey var mı?

Bilim Teknoloji ve inovasyon yerinde durmuyor ve her daim yeni gelişmeler yaşanıyor. Bir bilimadamı olarak bu yeni gelişmeleri takip etmek zorundayım ve yeni alanlarda çalışmalar yapıyorum. Bu çalışmaları yapabilmek için kendime ve çalışma arkadaşlarıma kaynak yaratmak amacı ile yeni projeler yazıyorum ve yazmaya devam edeceğim.

Successful Project Authors... Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bekir Yıldız

Dear Sir,  can you introduce yourself? How did you start the project writing process and gain experience in this field?

My name is Hüseyin Bekir YILDIZ. I work as a professor with the title of Prof.Dr. at KTO Karatay University in Konya. I am originally a chemist and I conduct research on renewable energy and solar cells. I started the project writing process during my doctoral studies with the encouragement of my doctoral advisor. I did not take any specific courses or training to learn project writing. At the time I started writing projects, there were no project writing training programs available. I read my advisor's previous projects and learned from the feedback I received from peer reviews of my own projects. By correcting my deficiencies and mistakes and learning the right way through this process, I have been able to write projects and receive support from various sources, which I continue to do. Learning how to write projects is a lifelong journey, so I will continue to learn in areas where I feel I am lacking in project writing skills until the end of my life.

What steps did you follow in the project writing process? What sources did you use and how did you plan?

In the project writing process, I first determine the project topic. When determining the project topic, I read scientific articles, projects, and patents that have been previously published on the subject I am considering. Then, if we need support in the project, I identify scientists or experts with whom I can collaborate and form a project team. Once the project team is formed, I hold a series of meetings with the team, taking into account the expertise of team members, to mature the project topic. Then, I write the project together with the team members. At each section of the project, I discuss with the team members to make these sections as mature as possible. Finally, I merge these sections and complete the project writing.

What advice do you recommend for writing successful projects? What strategies have you used to enhance the impact of your projects?

The most important aspect to consider in a project, whether it is scientific or social responsibility-oriented, is the originality of the project topic and the value it will create once it receives support and is completed. To achieve these, extensive reading of articles, projects, and patents is necessary. Only by doing so, you can achieve the originality and value in the project you write. After determining the project topic, I think about how the project can be carried out and create work packages. Then, I think about which project team members I would like to collaborate with for each work package. After forming the project team, I start writing the project and mature the project topic and writing process based on the feedback and suggestions from the team members. When determining the project topic and forming the team members, I follow the philosophy of finding the right people for the job rather than fitting the job to a person. I identify experts in their respective fields to form the team. Even if I don't know them, I contact them and propose collaboration. This is because I believe that the individuals who will carry out the project are as important as the project topic itself. I have had many successful collaborations with people I have not previously known but met through project opportunities.

What challenges did you encounter in the project writing process and how did you overcome them? What measures did you take and what support did you seek?

The most significant challenge we faced in the project writing process is ensuring that our  thoughts are clearly understood. As I also evaluate projects, I read and evaluate the projects based on what is written. When you can express your thoughts in a clear and understandable manner, the project gains meaning for the other party. While writing the project, I try to write it with the mindset of whether someone outside the field can understand what I have planned. When writing the project, you can think at a high level, and sometimes you can write at a high level, which can lead to the other party not fully understanding and giving you a low score in the evaluation. After writing the project, I have my project draft read by my sister, who is a mathematics teacher, my wife, who is a Turkish educator, and 3 or 4 readers whose thoughts I trust and who work in different fields. Based on the questions and criticisms I receive from them, I finalize the project.

5. How do you evaluate the success of your projects? What evaluation methods do you use to measure the impact of your projects?

The greatest success of a project lies in the value that its outputs bring. If you have created a device as a result of a project, the commercialization of that device and the ability to start earning money from that product indicate that the project has been successfully completed. If you have developed a method in a project, the quality of the scientific journal that publishes articles explaining that method and the citations that will be made to that article by other scientists also indicate the success of the project. If I have written a social responsibility project, I consider the project to be successfully completed if awareness has been raised in the subject I wrote the project on or if the project has helped many people.

Did you have any sources of inspiration or mentors during the project writing process? Can you talk about the support you received from important people in your life?

As I mentioned before, my most important sources are scientific articles, patents, theses, and completed projects related to the subject. My greatest project mentor is my doctoral advisor, Prof.Dr. Levent Toppare, and my former boss during my work in Jerusalem, Prof.Dr. Itamar Willner. In addition, the most important mentor for my social responsibility projects has been Attorney Engineer Ali Ulusoy. I cannot repay the contributions and rights they have given me.

Can you share a moment from your projects that you are most proud of?

The moments I am most proud of in my projects are the awards I have received at Project Fairs. I have received second and third place awards at TET R&D Project Fairs with my projects. However, the most meaningful award is the first-place award in Biotechnology and Innovation that my students received in 2021 with a project we wrote together.

After your experience in the project writing process, do you plan to develop new projects? Is there anything else you would like to add?

Science, technology, and innovation never stand still, and there are always new developments. As a scientist, I have to keep up with these new developments and work in new areas. To create resources for myself and my colleagues to carry out these works, I write new projects and will continue to do so.
